Christmas Treats

This is the kids' favorite treat to make.

mostly because I let them eat the extra M&M's.

They all do a great job helping, though
Evie ate more than she helped.

(See, I told you Liam wears that Ninja shirt all the time!)

YUM!

find recipe here

might be worth clicking on just to see the kids making these in 20091

Rainbow Cookies

Look what we made for St. Patrick's Day!

I found the idea on Pinterest.

With a little too much help, I made our usual sugar cookie recipe.
Then divided it in 4 parts,
colored with food coloring,
layered the colors into a log shape
(first blue, then green, then yellow, then read),
chilled in the fridge,
then sliced (like you do those store bought tube cookies.)

We sprinkled them with sugar fresh out of the oven.

They were yummy and fun!

I haven't posted pictures in this vein in a while.

Enjoy.

Zane did.

Cookie Time

Aprons and flour and helpers a plenty,

Curious little fingers 2 times twenty.

Busy little Potter version 5.0 kept me on my toes,

Why she likes that oven drawer, only heaven knows!

Making the icing for the second time.

Maybe someone older than 7 should read the recipe next time.

Or maybe Mommy shouldn't try to combine

homeschool with baking.... until another time.

Two batches of cookies to frost and decorate

with Zaner,

 Owie,

Liam, and

Kate.

After 7 years I do have to say...

the kids were actually a BIG help!  It was a fun fun fun day.

(Okay, minus the extra run to the store to re-make our icing!

If anything my life is never not exciting!)

Fun with Food

We had to take a snack to two recent homeschool group activities we're involved in.

I saw this idea on one of my friends' facebook pages.

Apple slices, peanut butter and mini marshmallows.

a little bit healthy, a little bit sweet.

A perfect halloween treat.

Fun with Food

the other day we made tiny pizzas.

i found these cute itty bitty pepperoni at the store.

put some pizza dough in a muffin tin

add some sauce, cheese and pepperoni

and yum yum!

forgot to take an after pic, but we certainly had fun with our food that evening!

[and, yes, those are 2 pine trees living on my kitchen counter that the kids got on a homeschool field trip. Really ought to plant those.]

Fun With Food

See
how
much
fun
we
have?

____

Yes, the astute blog reader may notice that only 3 of the 4 pictured children are dressed, one whom is wearing a size-too-small Sunday dress.

Yes. Yes me.

It was Spring Break!

Going Green

we went green... for March seventeen

The kids and I all wore green and we made green pancakes

Like my attempt at a shamrock pancake?

___

We also had green peeps as a special after school treat!

___

and while we're on the subject, I can't help but think of one of my favorite pictures of version 1.0 and 2.o taken last St. Patrick's Day.

Breakfast Shenanigans

Can you guess what I've been up to lately?

What they don't know won't hurt them.

Fun with Food

It's been

a while since

we've showed you

how we have

fun with

our food

at the Potter's house...

Today

we had

corndog, carrot, Cutie butterflies!

(Corndogs courtesy of Grandma Potter.)

Since she discovered that they LOVE corndogs (surprisingly minus Zane) Grandma has provided them an ample supply.

Let's just say
they have had more corndogs in the last 2 months
than they have their entire lives!

Fun with Food

Spaghetti Tacos

taco shells
spaghetti
meat sauce
cheese
lettuce

Although I hear this idea is actually from iCarly [some tweeny-bopper show I have never seen. I googled it. Doesn't look like I would let my kids watch it.], I actually got the idea from this magazine that showed up in our mailbox: "Parenting in Fort Wayne." Yes, there is such a magazine!

Surprisingly, Liam LIAM thought this sounded like a fun idea.

So we tried it.

And you know what? It was really good.

(Don't let Zane's face here fool you. He DEVOURED these.)

You should try it too. Yummo!

Kate's Birthday

July 5th, my baby girl turned 5!

Where did the time go?

[thank goodness the perm did go!]

_______

Birthdays don't have to be fancy...

Lunch with friends E and D

a few days before the big day.

a candle in strawberry

passing for a cake.

Hey, if a strawberry worked...

how about a candle in oatmeal

on birthday morning.

Opening her present from Dad, Mom & brothers.

Birthday Day lunch with friend K.

Complete with butterfly sandwiches.

and 4th of July attire!

She still has this gift bag on her dresser.

Never underestimate the gift bag's ability to actually be part of the gift.

Then fun party with Grandpa & Grandma Potter, Grandpa & Grandma Rohrer, Uncle Tim, Aunt Mindy, and Aunt Kim that evening.

With a homemade cake.
